Cruise is one of the fastest growing leisure travel segments globally with 4.24 million Asia cruise passengers in 2018, hitting a record high.
According to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA)’s 2018 Asia Ocean Source Market Report, Indonesia saw almost 55% jump in passenger volume in 2018, which propelled it from the 10th to 8th ranked source market in Asia. Indonesian cruisers favour shorter cruises with an average duration of 3.5-days and have one of the youngest average ages at 39 years, lower than Asia mean of 45.4 years.
“CLIA Asia’s mandate is to provide essential training, resources and support to travel agents in the region. Globally, we see that markets with a high number of cruise travellers have the most ‘cruise educated’ travel agents,” said Mr Joel Katz, CLIA Australasia & Asia Managing Director. “To support the growing market, CLIA will continue to provide professional development for travel agents in Indonesia.”
At the upcoming edition of CruiseWorld Indonesia taking place on 25 June 2019 in Jakarta, Indonesia, CLIA will have a session on “Increasing your Profit through Service”. The seminar aims to educate trade partners with the finer techniques of selling cruise holidays.
“Indonesians are the second biggest source of visitors to Singapore. It is also one of the top source markets for cruising out of Singapore. We have seen the rising popularity of cruise among leisure travellers and for Meeting and Incentive trips by corporate companies. The growth is driven by their affinity with cruise lines such as Genting Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International, which makes up a majority market share of the cruise products Indonesians sail on,” said Mr. Raymond Lim, Singapore Tourism Board, Area Director Indonesia (Jakarta). “We are happy to be working with CLIA and Northstar Travel Group to further equip travel agents with the knowledge and skills needed to sell Southeast Asian cruises and pre/post packages out of Singapore effectively.”
“CruiseWorld Asia’s series of conferences speaks to travel agents across the region on driving profits and cashing in on Asia’s cruise passenger growth,” said Ms Irene Chua, Vice President/Group Publisher, Asia, Northstar Travel Group. “CruiseWorld Indonesia – being held in one of the most populous countries coupled with aggressive passenger growth volume – serves as the perfect platform to gather industry partners inspired to yield revenue growth and spark further interest in cruising.”
Travel agents with a keen interest in cruise are invited to join CLIA at CruiseWorld Indonesia, 25June 2019 in Jakarta. For more details, please refer to https://cruiseworld-indonesia.com/ and www.cliaasia.org.
